SUPER Eagles captain, Mikel Obi believes Nigeria is
capable of winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.
No African country has ever reached the semi-final stage
of the history of the completion and the 31 year old believes the current squad can go
further to lift the trophy.
Responding to series of questions from his fans on his
Twitter accounts, Mikel, who contributed two goals in the World Cup
qualification series, and is expected to play a key role for Nigeria, says the
Super Eagles have to take it one game at a time to progress from a ‘difficult’
Group D, which comprises Argentina, Croatia and Iceland.
"I think we can, why not. It is possible
winning, you never know. I think it’s important to come out of this group
first. We are in a very difficulty group. We have lots of strong teams in this
group and it is going to be interesting to see who comes out of this
group. I think whoever comes out of this
group is going to do well in this tournament. So we have to make sure we play
three games well, come out of the group and think about next game.
"So it’s possible (to win World Cup) when you
keep winning games. In this tournament, it’s one game at a time and you just
have to take it one after the other. So we believe we can, why not",
said the Tianjin TEDA of China captain.
