WOLVERHAMPTON Wanderers legends including Matt Murray and
Steve Bull joined dedicated fans as a marathon 24-hour penalty shoot-out
finished on Saturday raising more than £10,000 in honour of Super Eagles
goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.
The Midlands outfit announced in July that the
31-year-old had been diagnosed with the disease following routine blood tests
during pre-season training, and he is currently undergoing treatment.
Blood cancer charity Cure Leukaemia has been working
closely with Wolves to raise awareness and vital funds in support of Ikeme, who
has made over 200 appearances for the club.
Ex-player Matt Murray came down to support the event
which saw penalties taken in Wolfie’s Den, next to the megastore.
Steve Bull also proved he has not lost his touch when he
smashed in two penalties at the Molineux fundraiser.
Current squad members, including Dave Edwards and Danny
Batth, also attended the event.
It was announced that the event has brought in more than
£10,000 - smashing its £5,000 target - as it drew to a close at 10am.
A fan, Steve Plant, who worked with the club on the
footballing fundraiser, said on his Twitter handle @wolvesmatchworn “Massive
thanks to everyone who has took part it really is appreciated👏
#Pens4Kemes. Over £10,000 raised for @CureLeukaemia 👏👏.”
Cure Leukaemia also urged to donate
generously for the Nigeria international.
