13-TIME national champion, Yemisi Olatunji will today (Wednesday) begin her campaign at the Christchurch vets Ipswich Ladies Squash
Open 2017 organised by the Professional Squash Association (PSA) in the United
Kingdom (UK).
The world number 148 is playing finals at the qualifying
draws to enter into the main draw of the all-female PSA world tour event but
will have to overcome either Reka Burmeister of Hungary or Charlotte Jagger of
England at the court 2D by 8:15pm.
The quarter finalist at the World Squash Athletes tourney
in South Africa said her target is to win a gold medal after training last year
and early 2017 for the $5k event.
Olatunji who is the only West African player at the open,
said although the tournament is filled with experienced players like Kace
Martley (ENG), Elise Lazarus (ENG) and Katriona Allen (SCO), they will make her
determined and more stronger.
"My dream as a young girl is to win major
international squash opens and add to my National titles. I got to the quarter
finals of the world Squash tourney in South Africa, but was distracted. This
year will be different with God and hardwork," the Lagos based player
said.
"I've been able to attend the All African Open
Namibia, Assore Parkview open Johannesburg South Africa, Keit Grainger Memorial
Open Cape in Town South Africa, Livestuff Open in Lake Tuxedo, New York (NY)
USA and now I'm starting this year (2017) with the Ipswich Open. What is on my
mind now is to win a medal of any color for my darling country," she
stressed.
The main draw will feature female player from France,
Netherlands, Switzerland, Wales and another African, Hana Moataz from Egypt
It will be recalled that Yemisi Olatunji visited the
United States (US) last December on a Pro tour.
