Larry Ekundayo set for comeback after injury

NIGERIA'S African Boxing Union Champion, Larry 'The Natural' Ekundayo will return to the ring for the first time in a year on Friday at Tolworth Recreation Centre in Surbiton, UK.

The 34-year-old, who will be matched against a selected opponent, is fighting on a Relentless Promotion event tagged ‘Christmas Cracker’.

Ekundayo boasting 11-0 record was last in action back in October 2015, when he defeated Joseph Lamptey by virtue of an unanimous decision to clinch the African Boxing Union welterweight title.

Undefeated Ekundayo was scheduled to defend his title against Tanzanian boxing star Saidi Mundi on Saturday 4th June in London, but a hand injury during training left his handlers with no other choice than to pull out of his title defence fight.

Friday’s fight represents a great chance for Ekundayo to regain the momentum he has built. It is also a perfect opportunity to lose some ring rust ahead of the new year, one which promises to be huge for the London-based Welterweight as he challenges for the Commonwealth title in early 2017.

Ekundayo who recently signed a management deal with Team MGM has now fully recovered from the injury and now eyeing a 12th straight professional win.

In a chat with Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com, the International Masters welterweight title holder said, “Even though this is not a title fight, every fight is important to any fighter’s career.

“I am ready to show everybody why they call me ‘The Natural’ and do Nigeria proud. If I win this, my next fight will be for the Commonwealth title, I need the support of my people to cheer me on,” the talented boxer said.
