NIGERIA Soccer Federation-United States of America (NSF-USA) has distributed relief package to about 400 non-league football players in Lagos State as Covid-19 continues to affect the global economy.

Spirtsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that the initiative packaged by Sportflames Communications and GIS Sports and held at the Surulere Local Government and Ikeja Local Government Councils on Thursday, October 15 and Frida, October 16 respectively, saw beneficiaries receiving food items that will sustain them and their family members for some period.

NSF-USA Coordinator in Nigeria and Managing Partner of Sportflames Communications, Olatoye Olawale said NSF-USA’s gesture is a way of cushioning the effect of the pandemic on players in the grassroots.

"My appreciation goes to NSF-USA President, Adetunji Aderemi for his believe in this project.

The NSF-USA annually celebrates Nigeria's Independence in diaspora with a football tournament in the United States, but could not hold this year in due to the novel Coronavirus outbreak that has halted football activities globally.

"The Federation then decided to distribute COVID19 relief packages to Four Hundred footballers in both local governments in Lagos, to serve as support in this challenging time globally and also a Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) as a federation in diaspora.

“I also want to appreciate the efforts of the Executive Chairmen of the two Local Government Councils Engr. Mojeed Balogun (Ikeja) and his colleague in (Surulere) Hon. Tajudeen Ajide; Executives of Ikeja and Surulere Regional Leagues and ex-international, Tajudeen Disu for their support.”

For Blak Haus FC captain, Rasheed Ajisafe, the relief packages came at the right time.

“We are very grateful to the organisers of this initiative because it has not been easy for grassroot players to get food because of this pandemic. We thank them for making it possible and we urge other stakeholders to emulate such gesture at this period,” Ajisafe said.

Clinton Omonedo of Diamond Stars Football Club is already looking forward to the new season.

“I want to appreciate NSF-USA for the COVID-19 relief packages they gave to us. We are very happy and grateful about it. Thank God the ban on football has been lifted, we have really missed the game and we are happy to be back. I am now looking forward to the new season. I am so excited to return to action. I always dream of playing for the Under 17 national team and now that the camp has been open, I will go for the trials and try my luck,” Omonedo said.
