WBF International Super featherweight Champion, Ridwan 'Scorpion' Oyekola has dedicated his victory over his Japanese opponent Daisuke Watanabe to Nigerians.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that Oyekola defeated Watanabe through unanimous decision in 8-Round Super-featherweight Contest fight at the Gateaux Kingdom Sapporo Hokkaido, Japan on Sunday.

Despite fighting in his hometown of Sapporo, the Japanese could not withstand his opponent as the three judges scored the Nigerian 78-75, 78-74, 78-73 after 8 tough rounds of actions under Hiranaka Boxing School promotions cards.

In a chat with Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com,  Oyekola said he will continue to work hard as he hopes to bring more glory and honour to Nigeria.

"I thank all my fans for the victory yesterday. I dedicate the victory to good people of my country, Nigeria. I dedicate the success to the people of Oyo State, especially Ibadan. This is because I'm not the most powerful or talented, but I'm enjoying the favour of Almighty Allah.

"To leave your country and go to another country and beat the son of the soil in front of his fans. My opponent is not an ordinary fighter, he is a top ranked boxer, number two in Japan. To defeat him is no mean feat. This is just a tip of the iceberg. I remain focused and will continue to bring honour and glory to my country.

"The success is for Nigeria, Oyo State and Ibadan. Special thanks to my fans who supported me in this journey. I've seen a lot. People only see the success, but do they know what I went through," he told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.

Coming into the fight, the Ibadan- born boxer was on training tour in Dubai, UAE, where he had sparring sessions with top boxers including the current WBC International Super featherweight champion, Shakur Stevenson.

The 25-year-old boxer won the WBF title on December 27, 2020 when he defeated Argentina’s Lucas Mattias Montesino at the Ilaji Hotels ans Sports Resort in Ibadan.

He then went ahead to defeat Ghanaian challenger, Emmanuel Noi Mensah also by unanimous decision 80-72, 80-72, 79-72 in a Super featherweight challenge at the same Ilaji Hotels ans Sports Resort on August 27,2021.

He also defeated Charlemagne Agbetomey of Benin Republic who failed to come out for round 2 in their challenge fight at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan on February 27, 2022.

Oyekola (9-1-1, 5), is however expected to join Hiranaka BS Gym in Japan.
