NIGERIAN boxer Tony Salam has been tipped to bounce back from his loss to Mike Perez in the vacant WVA Inter-Continental Cruiserweight title fight.
Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that Salam suffered a third-round stoppage to Perez at the Hotel Atlantis The Palm in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Friday night but his promoter, Saleh Fawaz of Saleh Gloves Promotions has predicted that his boxer won’t take much time out before returning to the ring in grand style.
“I will like to congratulate Mike Perez and his team on the victory, becoming the new WBA Inter-continental cruiser champion and to also take this opportunity to congratulate Legacy on a successful start to their boxing series project, a wonderful way to open a relationship, thank you and well done. Unfortunately things did not go our way tonight. This is just the beginning,” Fawaz posted on his Instagram page.
“The journey continues, we learn a lot from tonight and come back stronger. Tony will be back, has a heart of a lion. First thing he told me after the fight was to get back to the gym next week. He knows the mistakes, the difference in this fight and what needs to be done, he is a warrior and a very smart person. Mike Perez and his team did a very good job in preparing Perez for months ahead of his big return, they've done a good job in the last seven months to get him in shape for his return tonight.
“Tony will be back stronger no doubt, he has the physical and mental strength to do it, his story says it all. For now he will get some rest, recover, dust it off and back to business. We will discuss training, fight plans to get back on this road again in the months ahead, perhaps a thing or two on weight plans and weight divisions, this kind of stuff. We will do whatever works best for 'Sugar'.
“We have to keep pushing and work hard to reach the top, to keep raising the flag, Africa can go higher, Africa is growing.
“We win we learn. It has been a crazy couple of years, tonight has opened many doors and a lot to learn from, some positives in many other ways, this is just the beginning. I thank God for the crazy days, the good ones, the better days ahead and for all the strength to keep pushing. We fought for the WBA title against number 9 in the world, crazy journey so far with loads of sacrifices and bigger days to come. Tonight did not go according to plan, we will do the needful moving forward 100%.
“We will like to thank everyone for their amazing support throughout this camp and to every single fan that tuned in or was at the show to watch the fight, much love and respect always best believe, I am so grateful. Tony Salam will be back,” he said.
