Table Tennis: Offiong through to second round, Omotayo crashes out of Olympics

NIGERIA’S highest ranked women's table tennis player, Edem Offiong is through to the second round of the Women's Singles of the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics in Japan.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that Offiong recorded a convincing 4-1(11-8,11-9,11-9,9-11,11-4) victory over Dora Madarasz Hungary Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Saturday.

She will now face Zhang Lily of the USA in the Round 2 of the women's singles on Monday. 

Meanwhile, Nigeria table tennis sensation Olajide Omotayo crashed out of the men’s singles table tennis event.



The African Games gold medalist suffered a 4-0 defeat in the hands of Tiago Apolonia of Portugal on Saturday.

Omotayo, who was making his first appearance at the Olympics could not match the firepower of the Portuguese losing all the set 7-11, 9-11, 6-11, 5-11.
