DUTCH club, AZ Alkmaar have identified Nigeria’s first choice goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye as a potential replacement for Marco Bizot, who is facing a transfer to OlympiaKos Piraeus.
The Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper, who was voted the Player of The Season at Sparta Rotterdam, after making an impressive debut season for the club, has attracted top clubs in the Eredivisie division including PSV.
Okoye joined Sparta Rotterdam from German side Fortuna Dusseldorf in the summer of the 2020/2021 Eredivisie season, made 29 appearances and was voted Man of the Match three times by Whoscored.com during the season. His heroics helped the coach Henk Fraser team finish in eighth position.
According to fcupdate.nl, AZ Alkmaar are keen on the Nigerian as first option for Bizot, who is obviously seeking a summer departure from the AFAS Stadion.
Olympiakos has shown interest in Bizot, who would like to embark on a new adventure.
Bizot has not hidden his wish to leave and also has an expiring contract with AZ in 2022, making this the last moment to catch a nice amount for him. Despite this, no agreement has yet been reported between the two clubs, but Bizot himself would like to go to the Greek league.
PSV are also keen on Okoye to replace wantaway Yvon Mvogo.
“It is still unknown who should be the successor at AZ van Bizot. Hobie Verhulst and Rody de Boer are also under contract in the A-selection, but none of them will normally move up the pecking order. AZ and PSV are interested in Sparta goalie Maduka Okoye, if Bizot or Yvon Mvogo respectively were to leave. The first option is in any case a bit more realistic after the new rumors from Greece,” the highly respected website noted.
