Tirana sack Nigerian coach Ndubuisi Egbo after second consecutive home defeat

ALBANIAN club KF Tirana have sacked their Nigerian head coach Ndubuisi Egbo after suffering a 1-0 loss to first division side Korabi Peshkopi in the FA Cup match on Thursday.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that it was Tirana’s second consecutive home loss this season.

The 47-year-old set a record last season as he became the first African coach to lead an European club to a league title.

The feat saw Tirana qualify for the qualifying round of this season’s UEFA Champions League where they were eliminated in the third qualifying round by Red Star Belgrade.

The Albania champions began their SuperLiga title defense on a winning note, defeating Kukesi 2-0 at the Stadiumi Selman Stermasi on the 4th of November.

The team however lost 0-1 to Teuta Durres in their second League game last Sunday before suffering another 0-1 home loss in the FA Cup to Korabi Peshkopi on Thursday.

While announcing the discharge of coach Egbo immediately after the game, Tirana thanked the Nigeria for his dedication while wishing his success in his career.

“After the team's unfortunate performance in the last matches, Egbo will no longer be in the top of white and blue because of missing results.
The club thanks him for his dedication and successes, which peaked with the return of the champion home title.

“Wishing him success in his career, the champions camp gives a special value of success in the last season to the man who has been and will be part of the white and blue family for years. Thank you Egbo,” the club wrote on their website.

Meanwhile, Emanuel Egbo had foreseen in time that he would be removed from the bench of Tirana.

The coach of the white and blues, even in the period when he was making the record series of matches that led to the champion title, was questioned several times.

Therefore, he apparently did not wait for this dismissal from Tirana, as he said in a short statement for Top Channel.

"They have been waiting for me to be removed for some time. "But I am not upset at all that they have been waiting for a long time to lose the match and the coach to leave", were the words of the coach.

Which clearly shows what everyone thought for a long time, that in the club they were "forced" to keep it since he won the title and with the first mistake used the opportunity to dismiss him, using it as an excuse for a decision they had made a long time ago.
