Fulham 2-0 West Brom: Ola Aina scores first Premier League goal

By Akeem Lawal

SUPER Eagles defender, Ola Aina scored his first Premier League goal for Fulham in a 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Monday night.

The Nigeria international, who is part of Gernot Rohr’s side to face Sierra Leone in this month’s double-header Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Benin City and Freetown, showed his readiness by securing the Cottagers’ first Premier League victory of the season.

Scott Parker's side were the better team throughout and deservedly took the lead when Bobby De Cordova-Reid headed home after Aleksander Mitrovic nodded Antonee Robinson's deep cross back to him.

The second on the half-hour mark was even better, again Mitrovic laid the ball off but Aina had a lot to do when the ball came to him 25 yards out only for him to unleash an arrow into the top left hand corner, leaving Sam Johnstone with no chance.

Aina joined Chelsea in 2007 at the age of just nine-years-old. He spent essentially his entire development period at Cobham, making his first-team debut in the 2016/17 campaign under the stewardship of Antonio Conte.

The Nigeria international, as many are, was forced to leave Chelsea in search of regular first-team football, with Torino the club fortunate enough to secure his signature.

After a successful stint in Turin, Aina signed for Premier League new-boys on loan in the summer transfer window.

Monday’s victory saw Fulham sit outside the relegation zone with four points, with Albion that had Nigeria’s Semi Ajayi in action for 90 minutes, a point and position behind them in third-bottom.
