A member of the 2015 AfroBasket-winning D’Tigers squad, Olaseni
‘Shane’ Lawal has announced his retirement from professional basketball, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.
The 32-year-old, who broke the news via a post on his
Instagram profile on Friday, also revealed that he will be taking over as head
coach for in a high school team in Detroit.
“I am announcing my retirement. These past ten years have
had ups and downs. From titles to surgeries. Much love to all my teammates,
staff, and fans.
“I am happy to announce that I am the new head coach for
the Girls Varsity Basketball Team at Detroit Renaissance High School. Ready to
embark on this next journey!!, Lawal wrote.
Lawal played in EuroLeague and EuroCup with Dinamo
Sassari in 2014-2015 and in 2015-2016 with Barcelona.

He sustained a left tendon rupture injury while playing
for Nigeria during a Men's preliminary round basketball game against Argentina at
the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. The injury forced him to sit out most of
2016-2017 season.

He parted ways with Barcelona in May 2017.
Lawal was a key player of the Sassari team that won the
Italian Supercup, Cupand League titles of 2014-2015. He was Nigeria's top
performer at the AfroBasket 2015, averaging 19.6 efficiency, and 9.0 rebounds
per game, as the West Africans clinched their first-ever continental
championship in Tunisia.
