NIGERIAN and Genk striker Stephen Odey has dedicated his
first ever goal in the UEFA Champions League to his mum, who celebrated her
birthday on Tuesday, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.
The former MFM forward came off the bench to make his
debut in the elite European competition and also grabbed a consolation goal in
Genk’s 4-1 home loss to reigning champions Liverpool on Wednesday.
“Not the result we wanted but it ended that way. Hoping
to get a better result in our next meeting and a goal. I will like to dedicate
my first @ChampionsLeague goal to my mum who marked her birthday on Tuesday as
a birthday gift. Thanks for guiding me in the right path,” he said via his Twitter handle.
The 21-year-old scored in the 88th minute from inside the
Liverpool box just after coming on for his compatriot and teammate Paul Onuachu
in the 81st minute.
The late goal could not inspire the Gent’s fight-back as
they suffered their second loss in Group E.
The Belgian top-flight outfit still languish at the
bottom of the group with a point after three matches. Next up for them is a
trip to Anfield for the return fixture on November 5.
