PRO Wrestling Africa (PWA),
the mouthpiece of the grunt and groan game in Africa is mourning its president,
Jacob Mbeng Makia known around the wrestling world as Super Makia.
The former African pro
wrestling heavyweight champion and titleholder became the PWA president in the
year 2015.
The African legend who hails
from Cameroon passed away at the military hospital in Yaounde, Cameroon on
Thursday 1st August, 2019 at the age of 61 after a short illness.
The short and muscular
talented wrestler, who was one-time vice president of the Cameroon Professional
Wrestling Federation, entered the ring 86 times, registering 85 victories and a
draw. Makia was Africa’s wrestling champion from 1986 till his retirement in 2014.
He defeated giants like “Big Bulu”, “Ngamazine” and “Times Manodor”.
Super Makia was born in 1958
in Kumba in the Meme Division of the South West Region of Cameroon, where he
obtained his elementary school certificate. He came to Nigeria and enrolled at
the Lagos School of Sports as an amateur wrestler in 1974. He subsequently
moved to Hong Kong where he fought as a professional wrestler for two years
before relocating back to Cameroon.
During his prime, Makia was
known to feast on 8 full chickens a day – two for breakfast, two for lunch, two
for pre-dinner, and two for dinner.
Makia will be buried in
Yaoundé on Saturday 17th August 2019 in his native South West region. He is
survived by a wife and four children.
PWA would be well represented at the burial by
the PWA African heavyweight champion and titleholder, Power Lee the Great and
the Secretary General at PWA, Olusesan Olukoya in Yaounde Cameroon to pay last
respect to the African warlord during burial.
