2019 AFRICA GAMES: Nwosu delighted to win Nigeria’s first gold medal

By Akeem Lawal
2019 Africa Games gold medallist, Chinazum Nwozu has said that winning Nigeria first gold medal in Rabat, Morocco comes with much excitement.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that Nwosu defeated Morocco’s Oumaima El Bouchiti 26-22 in the -53kg women's Taekwondo event at the ongoing African version of the Olympic Game.

Nwosu said losing in the finals would have been disastrous since she won silver at the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo.

“I feel great, wonderful and short of words winning Nigeria first gold medal. The only thing in my head in the final was to get the gold medal because I have come a long way, trained so hard, the coaches put in so much effort to make this dream come through; I felt I had to win that time and winning I did."

The NSCDC officer revealed that her coach told her that winning is an attitude and anything short of gold implies she did not learn anything from her defeat at the last African Games.

“My coach really motivated me because he said winning is an attitude. I lost in the final at the last African Games in Congo and getting to this point still working and training hard; it was tough taking a decision.

“I encouraged myself, my coach and teammates gave me the necessary support. I am glad the country first medal is coming from Taekwondo,” she said.
