30 teams including Ghana Police Volleyball team and a
team from Benin Republic will participate in this year’s edition of the Legacy
Volleyball Championship which will take place at the Volleyball Court of the
Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos from 5th to 10th November, 2018.
Chairman of Legacy Volleyball Club, Olukayode Ladele who
made this known to Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com on Sunday, said all arrangements
have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free competition.
“This tournament started five years ago with a one day
tournament where we had five teams on parade. The second year we had close to
15 teams, while the third edition recorded over 20 teams with teams coming from
every state in Nigeria including Benin Republic. This year is going to be
bigger than what we used to be having.
“We are doing this to promote volleyball in the country,
we are not asking anybody for money. Last year, we spent over six million and
this time around we are going to spend more because we will give accommodation
to all the teams that are coming for the whole one week. Last year we had
medical partner that took care of all the players.
“The Customs, Nigeria Police, Army, Volleyball clubs in
Jos, Kaduna, Kano will be at the tournament. So you can see a lot of players
that are representing various Nigeria teams are going to be in one team or the
other. So it is going to be highly competitive.
“The tournament is going to be on knock out basis and
that is the reason we wanted to use the Indoor Sports Hall of the National
Stadium which would have allowed us play all through the night. But right now
that the federation has fixed the Volleyball League to the same time, we don’t
know how possible the Indoor will be. But if they don’t agree that means we
will add more lights here and that means we will be ending the tournament a day
around 9 or 10pm,” Ladele said.
