EIGHT-TIME African champion, Blessing Oborududu has
revealed that her next target is to win gold medals at the 2018 Commonwealth
Games which will be held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia between April 4 to15 and the 2018 World Wrestling Championship due to take place in Hungarian
capital Budapest from October 22 to 28.
The Nigerian freestyle wrestler rallied from a 0-3
deficit to eventually defeat Anta Sambou of Senegal 14-3 in the final of the
68kg Senior Women’s wrestling at the just concluded African Wrestling
Championship in Port Harcourt.
Oborududu won a silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth
Games in Delhi, India and also won a bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in
Glasgow but lost her bronze medal match to Jackeline Castillo of Colombia at the
2017 World Wrestling Championship in Paris France.
In a chat with Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com, Oborududu
believes she now has all it takes to claim gold in Gold Coast and Budapest.
“It is amazing and wonderful. I feel so excited because
this is my 8th title and to God be the glory; He made it possible for me again
to be African champion.
“Sambou really prepared for this championship because I
knew her from when we were both in the 63kg before we moved on to 68kg and she
was prepared for me. Likewise myself, I was not sleeping; I prepared myself for
this task.
“I’m looking forward to the world championship. I did my
best at the last edition in France but was robbed in my bronze medal match. Now, I’ve garnered enough experience to come home with a medal.
“The next is Commonwealth Games and by the grace of God,
I’m promising Nigerians that I’m going to do well and come home with gold
medal,” the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games gold medalist told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.
