NWF plans PH/Yenagoa camp for African Championship

NIGERIA wrestlers to the 2018 Commonwealth Games are
expected to be in camp from Friday (today), just as the Nigeria Wrestling Federation
(NWF) is planning to camp the athletes to the African Wrestling Championship in Port
Harcourt, Rivers State and Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital,
Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.
The African Wrestling Championship is billed for Port
Harcourt, Rivers State from 7th to 11th February, while the Commonwealth Games
will be held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia between 4th and 15th
April 2018.
NWF Technical Director, Sir Damien Ohaike informed Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com
that about 32 athletes are expected in camp for the Games, while the country
will present wrestlers for all the 90 weight categories at the African
Championship.
“The athletes for the Commonwealth will be entering camp
in Port Harcourt from tomorrow; we are just trying to tie up the logistics. We
have freestyle and female wrestling and we are looking at 32 athletes both male
and female for the Commonwealth,” Damien told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com on
telephone on Thursday.
“For the African Championship, after our meeting tomorrow (Friday) we will decide when they will be called to camp. We want to marry the two
because the African Championship involves the Cadet, Junior and Senior.
“What we are trying to finalize is whether we can put the
male team and female team separately between Port Harcourt and Bayelsa. We are
going to present wrestlers in all the 90 weight categories in the Greco-Roman,
freestyle and female wrestling. So the number of athletes will be big and we
cannot have all of them together in one state, it will be too much. We are
doing this type of arrangement so that it will be easy for us to coordinate
those athletes in Bayelsa and those in Port Harcourt. All the in formations
will come out after our meeting tomorrow specifically,” Damien told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.
