MRS Kids' Cup finals hold May 31

THE finals of the 5th edition of both Boys and Girls 5th MRS Kids' Cup have been slated for Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the Campos Mini Stadium, Ajele, Lagos.

The competition, which is being organised by National Youth Soccer Association and sponsored by MRS Group of Companies, kicked off on Friday, May 12, 2017 with 64 teams both male and female slugging it out on a knockout basis.

Oluyole Boys, Ayobo will take on Amazing Boys, Ikoyi in the Boys category by 3 pm, while Sunrise United, Ketu and Shade Queens, Ikorodu will slug it out in the Girls category by 1 pm.

Speaking at the handing over of trophies to National Youth Soccer Association held at the company's office in Lagos on Tuesday, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of MRS Holdings Ltd, Alhaji Sayyu Dantata assured participants and spectators of a good final to look forward to.

Dantata, who was ably represented by Managing Director of MRS Oil of Nigeria Plc, Andrew Gbodume said the company will continue to contribute its quota towards the grassroot development of sports in the country. 

“MRS is a company that is interested in ensuring that they give back to the society and as part of corporate social responsibility, we have taken a decision to develop the youths in this country. A lot of the youths are engaged in various activities such as soccer, drama and music. And we feel that football is one aspect that needs to be developed and that is why we have been on this track for the past five years so that we can take them out of the streets and out of crime,” he said.

The director of public Affairs MRS holdings, Otunba Jibrin revealed that the MRS Kids’ Cup started in 2013 as part of their corporate social responsibility in youths and sports. He said the winning team will have cash prizes and support for their schooling while other teams will also be given consolation prizes for participating.

In his speech, the assistant secretary of the National Youth Soccer Association said it had become a tradition now to hold a press conference and presentation of trophies before the final closing ceremony of the annual MRS Kids’ Cup.

He also pointed out that the partnership with MRS was a fruitful one which provides an enabling platform for kids who believe in positive ideals, as well as strive to achieve them.


The event was rounded up with the official presentation of trophies by the MD MRS holdings to the Chairman of the National Youth Soccer Association Rev. Paul Freeman and also the unveiling of the jerseys to be used by the finalists.
