2016 CAVB WOMEN’S CONTINENTAL CUP:Nigeria fail to win Africa’s sole ticket to 2016 Olympics

NIGERIA'S women team on Saturday in Abuja failed in the bid to claim Africa’s sole ticket to the beach volleyball event of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Nigeria, who are hosting nine other countries at the Jabi Lakeside, lost out to Egypt in the semi-finals of the CAVB Continental Cup Women’s Finals, which is Africa’s Olympic qualifier.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL OLYMPIC QUALIFIER:Nigeria to face Egypt in semifinal

NIGERIA beach volleyball female team will on Saturday face Egypt in the semifinal of the ongoing 2016 CAVB Women's Continental Cup holding at the Jabi Lake Beach in Abuja.

A total of 10 African countries are currently struggling for a sole ticket of the tournament which also serves as the qualifier for the beach volleyball event at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
Nigeria defeated Ghana 2-0 in two matches to book the semi-finals ticket, Sportsbiz247 reports.

The duo of Tochukwu Nnoruga and Francisca Ikhiede, playing for Nigeria 1, defeated Ghana 2’s Martha Bavon and Adedze 21-05, 21-12 to end 2-0.

Priscilla Agera and Isabella Laju of Nigeria 2 beat Ghana 1’s Gloria Addai and Patricia Habada 21-13, 21-16 to also end 2-0.

Nigeria had also won all their three matches at the group stage beating Gambia, Mauritius and Sierra Leone in Pool A.

Pool B of the competition has Rwanda, Egypt, Namibia, Mozambique and Morocco.

Rwanda will play Mauritius in the other semi final. The final comes up on Sunday.

The eventual winners of the finals will get the right to participate in the beach volleyball tournament of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The 2nd and 3rd National Federations will qualify to the FIVB World Olympic qualifications with all the Confederations, forming a total of 10 countries all competing for the last 2 places in the Rio Olympics Games.
