Tokyo 2020: Esther Toko targets quarterfinal spot in Rowing

NIGERIA’S Esther Tamaraebi Toko will hope to qualify for the quarterfinal spot in Rowing event, despite placing 5th in her heat in the women's single sculls with a time of 8:58.49.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that the event held at the Sea Forest Waterway (Central Breakwater) in Tokyo Bay on Friday, saw KOHLER Kara of United States of America came first with a time of 7:49.71, Klimovich Tatsiana of Belarus finished second a time of 7:51.86 and Malaei Nazanin of Islamic Republic of Iran came third with 7:59.01 to automatically secure their place in the last four of the event.

The 21-year-old Toko will now compete in the repechage on Saturday for a chance at making the quarterfinal.

The Nigeria’s sole representative in Rowing will compete in the repechage with Jeong Hyejeong of Republic of Korea, Gonzalez Jarquin Evidelia of Nicaragua and Chow  Felice Aisha of Trinidad and Tobago.

The first and second placed athlete will progress to the quarterfinal, while the remaining crew will compete in the semifinal.
