Uzoho delighted to be back in Eagles after two years

By Akeem Lawal

SUPER Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho is in cloud nine after making a return to the national team after almost two years absence due to injury.

The 22-year-old last featured for Nigeria in 2019 in an international friendly against Brazil at the Singapore’s National Stadium where he suffered a horrific knee injury.

The injury however kept Uzoho, who was Nigeria’s number one goalkeeper at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where the team crashed out in the Group Stages, out of action for many months, paving way for Maduka Okoye and other goalkeepers.

The APOEL Nicosia goalkeeper however made his much awaited return to the Super Eagles starting line-up in Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Lesotho in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Tuesday.

The former Deportivo La Coruna shot-stopper was well composed in goal, making decent saves and ensuring a clean sheet as Nigeria sealed their qualification unbeaten.

“Happy to be back with the team after close to 2 years out IN CHRIST ALONE,” he tweeted after the game, while uploading a line-up picture of the team on Instagram with the caption, “Happy to catch up with my team mates once again. Always an honor to wear this jersey IN CHRIST ALONE.”
