By Akeem Lawal

NIGERIA’S representative in the CAF Champions League, Plateau United departed the shores of the country on Thursday for Tanzania ahead of their preliminary round, second leg clash against Simba Sports Club at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, Dar-es-Salaam this weekend.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that the 45-man contingent which includes 20 players, technical crew, management and other major stakeholders had  Plateau State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Victor Lapang as leader of delegation.

The team, which arrived Lagos from Abuja Wednesday night, departed from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to Tanzania through Addis Ababa on an Ethiopian Airline around 1pm.

The Peace Boys began their campaign in this year’s edition of the competition losing 1-0 to the Tanzanian kings in the first leg of the preliminary round at the New Jos Stadium last Sunday.

The Abdu Maikaba tutored side will now looking forward to turning the table around when the two domestic champions meet on Saturday.

Notable among the players that made the trip is captain, Golbe Elisha who did not feature in the first match and Akila Jesse in addition to seventeen players that played the first leg.

However, Bernard Ovoke failed to make the trip due to an undisclosed illness while goalkeeper Chinedu Anozie is still out due to a finger injury he sustained some weeks ago.

Plateau United need at least a two goal victory without conceding any to overturn the result and qualify for the second round of the preliminary fixtures where the winner of the tie over two legs will face either Platinum Stars of South Africa or Costa Du Sol of Angola.
