By Our Reporter

AT the Rainoil Open on Wednesday, first round action still holds in the women’s singles field, while in the men’s field, players will be looking to make the third round.

Top seed, Oyinlomo Quadre begins her quest for a third consecutive national title, when she takes to court in her opening match against Christie Nwankwo. Quadre has not a lost a match on the national scene this year and will aim to add the Rainoil Open title to the CBN Open and Dala Hard Court titles she’s won in 2019 so far.

Defending champion, Joseph Imeh looks to continue his top form when he meets Emmanuel Ikakah in the men’s singles second round. Ikakah didn’t have any troubles advancing to the second round on Monday, as he defeated Ezekiel Adeleye 6-1, 6-1. However, the country’s No. 31 will now face his biggest test yet in Imeh, who was a 6-1, 6-0 winner in the first round.

Imeh is currently on a 6-match winning streak, has made the finals in each of the previous two editions at the Rainoil Open and is certainly looking to go all the way again this week.

Nigeria’s No. 1, Sylvester Emmanuel goes head-to-head with Matthew Abamu at the top half of the men’s singles draw. Emmanuel, having finished as a semi-finalist last year, seeks to better that run and will fancy his chances against the 56th-ranked Abamu, who had to come from a set down to beat Michael Ambrose in the first round.

Emmanuel came into this week’s clay-court event on the back of a final showing at the Dala Championship two weeks ago and looks primed for a similar run.

Other matches headlining Wednesday’s packed schedule include No. 2 seed, Aanu Aiyegbusi taking on qualifier, Ramota Odeyemi, 3rd seed, Uche Oparaoji against youngster, Wilson Igbinovia, on Court 5. The tournament’s 4th seed, Thomas Otu squares off against Michael Osewa.
