NIGERIA will be having two representatives in the Women’s
400m at the World Athletics Championship in Doha, Qatar after the duo of Favor
Ofili and Patience Okon George book their spot from their heat events held at the renovated
multi-purpose Khalifa International Stadium on Monday.
Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that Ofili, who won gold in the Women's 4x400m and silver in
the Women’s 400m at the 2019 African Games in Morocco, smashed her PB of 51.68secs
with a new 51.51s to place third in heat 4 and qualify for the automatic semifinal
spot in her first ever Women’s 400m at the World Athletics Championships.
Galefele Moroko of Botwana won the heat with her PB time
of 50.59s and Stephenie Ann Mcpherson of Jamaica came second with 51.51s. Other
qualifiers from the heat include Aliyah Abrams (51.73), America’s Kendall Ellis
(51.82) and Cuba’s Roxana Gomez (51.85s).
Okon-George however placed sixth in heat 2 with a time of
51.77s but qualified as one of the six fastest times in the heats.
Wadeline Jonathas came first in heat 2 with the time of
50.57s, while Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson (51.13), Australia’s Bendere Oboya (51.21),
Netherland’s Lisanne De Witte (51.31) and Great Britain’s Emily Diamond (51.66)
placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively to book their place in the
semifinal.
