2016 Fed Cup: Nasarawa Utd appeal to Gov. Al-Makura on land promise

By Our Reporter
PLAYERS and officials of Nigeria Professional Football League side, Nasarawa United have pleaded with the State governor, Tanko Al-Makura to redeem the promise of landed properties made to the team for their performance in the 2016 Federation Cup.

Nasarawa United narrowly lost 5-4 on penalties to FC Ifeanyi Ubah after both teams failed to score in regulation time in the final of the 2016 edition held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
Despite losing in the final, the governor opted to reward the team as it was the first time a club from the state would play in the final of the country’s oldest cup competition.
For their efforts, the club chairman, Isaac Dalandi, received N.5 million while the coach, Kabiru Dogo, who is now with Sunshine Stars was given N.4 million. The players in the team then received N200,000 each, while all members of the team were promised a plot of land each.
One of the players,  who was in the team during the period but do no want his name in print, told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com that his team mates then and officials are patiently waiting for the day the generous pledge of a plot of land made by His Excellency would be fulfilled before the expiration of his term this year.
“We are yet to be allocated the plots of land the state governor promised us for our performance during the Federations Cup three years ago. You know his tenure will soon expire and we believe we should remind him of the pledge to the team.
“Even though most of us are not with the team again, we believe a promise made should be fulfilled. We were only given a certificate of land without specified location,” the former Nasarawa United player told Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com.
