Elegbeleye tasks Sunshine Stars to win AITEO Cup

By Akeem Lawal
CHAIRMAN of the Interim Management Committee of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA), Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye has charged Sunshine Stars to go ahead and win this year's edition of the AITEO Cup as a parting gift for the committee, Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports.

Elegbeleye said the board has accomplished its mandate of ensuring that Sunshine Stars avoided relegation at the end of just concluded Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

The Akure landlords edged Remo Stars 1-0 in a Southwest derby at the Gateway Stadium, Shagamu on Saturday to end the season well above the drop zone, finishing 10th on the log with 54 points.

Sunshine Stars will aim to negotiate a trick challenge against giant killers, Ngwa FC in the AITEO Cup round of 16 in Abakaliki on Wednesday.

In a chat with Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com after Sunday's encounter, Elegbeleye said he will continue to give Owena Waves his support.

"I'm interested in Sunshine Stars winning the AITEO Cup. There are three matches to the final now and I pray that they gets to the final and win it. The fact is that it was not part of the mandate given to us by the governor. The instruction is to make sure that Sunshine Stars and Sunshine Queens does not go on relegation. I'm happy to say that the two of them survived relegation. The mission of the committee at the agency have been completed.

"The AITEO Cup is not part of the assignment given to us. But again we've been prosecuting it half way, even though there are three matches to go I can still go there and give my own support but they will win it," Elegbeleye stated.
