Cowrie Rugby Club beat Racing to win Gosar 7s Tourney

COWRIE Rugby Football Club defeated Racing Rugby Football Club by running in 4 un-replied tries to lift the Gosar Rugby Sevens Tournament trophy on Saturday at the Navy sports grounds in Ajegunle, Lagos.


Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that winger, Christian Ogar opened the scoring within 2 minutes after stepping a defender and touching down under the post which was converted by man of the tournament, Jamie Goode to put Cowries 7-0 ahead.

Centre, John Oladele crossed the line in the fourth minute for another try when he sold a dummy to 2 defenders followed by another Christian Ogar try before half time.

Cowries new captain, Onoru Jatto scored the final try after the break all converted by Azeez Ladipo to end any hope of a Racing comeback.
28-0 it ended as Cowrie successfully defended their trophy.

Cowrie had earlier defeated EcoII 35-0 in the semi final whilst Racing whom were also unbeaten until the final match beat Delta Dragons 22-0 on their way to the final.
Delta Dragons, inspired by scrumhalf, Al-Ameen Demola beat EcoII Rugby Club 14-12 in a very close third place match.

Cowrie, Racing and Delta Dragons have automatically qualified for the Independence International Rugby Sevens Tournament to be held on October 21-22 in Lagos.

Meanwhile, Docas Memorial Secondary School from Ajegunle won the Tournament schools section defeating Ojuku High School Olodi Apapa and Caro Favoured College of Ajegunle to also qualify for a place in the Independence Sevens Schools Tournament to be played on 20 - 22 October, 2017 in Lagos.

In the finals of the Ladies section of the Gosar Rugby Sevens Tournament, Delta Dragons Ladies defeated Gosar Rugby Football Club Ladies by 15- 5 points to lift the trophy.
