Pro Wrestling League: Adekuoroye sets record in India

THREE-TIME African champion, Odunayo Adekuoroye on Wednesday created history in India by being the first wrestler to be unbeaten at the Pro Wrestling League since inauguration in 2015.


The Commonwealth gold medalist fought her way to the finals of the league with her team after defeating Mumbai’s Lalita Sehrawat 16-0 in the women’s 53kg bout.

The Punjab Royals wrestler, took a 4-0 lead in the first round before overpowering Lalita in the second to be declared the winner.

Adekuoroye who is a Grand Prix gold medalist, won three of her bout by Technical Superiority and two in the second rounds.


The Ondo-born wrestler since the inauguration of the Pro Wrestling League have won eleven (11) fights making her the new wrestling pride of India.

Adekuoroye will take on Sofia Mattson of Haryana Hammers in the final, after the Olympic bronze medallist defeated Betzabeth Areguello by technical fall 8-0 points.


It will be recalled that the Punjab Royals wrestler in the group stage, saw of Swedish's Sofia Mattsson 6-1 point .

Punjab Royals beat defending champions Mumbai Maharathi 5-4 in the second semi-final to set a date with Haryana Hammers in the summit clash of the Pro Wrestling League (PWL).
