Uzoho: Super Eagles keep getting better

By Akeem Lawal
SUPER Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has stated delight with the Nigerian team’s progress under Coach Gernot Rohr and believes it is confirmation that the current squad keeps getting better.

Sportsbiz247.blogspot.com reports that the German tactician recently agreed to a two-and-a-half-year deal to continue his work as the handler of the three-time African champions, putting to bed speculation around his future.

Uzoho, who is currently on loan to Cypriot side Omonia from Spanish Segunda club Deportivo de La Coruna believes the team has improved tremendously from the 2018 World Cup campaign and their third placed finish at AFCON 2019 in Egypt.

“I can’t really say that we have weakness. All I can say is that this is a new and young team. Yes we did not take the Cup at the Nations Cup, but we did well. Let’s just remove he cup from the equation, we really did well,” the Nigeria international told Sports Zone, a sports program on Lagos Talks.

“You could see that we improved from the team that played in the World Cup. There was improvement after the World Cup. Each game we were improving and we kept on improving up till the Nations Cup semi-finals against Algeria. We did played well, but we could not win. There were just small little details that happened and we lost the game which I think after the game we learnt from it and we improved against Tunisia in the 3rd place match and we improved in the friendly against Ukraine and the friendly against Brazil. You could see that this team keeps on getting better.

“So I can say there is a weakness in the team, it’s just a matter of time. For example, Liverpool and Manchester City did not just become the best. Liverpool especially took their time, they blended and they knew each other’s movement. I don’t think we have weakness, we are just trying to know ourselves better and we are doing that and playing good,” the 22-year-old stated.
